Traders request the Pollachi Sub- Collector to give permission to open jewellery and textile shops in Pollachi.

As all stores except essentials have been asked to close on the weekends, traders requested the Pollachi Sub- Collector to give permission to open jewellery and textile shops in Pollachi.

Coimbatore: District Collector Sameeran has ordered a ban on all textile and jewellery shops in the Coimbatore district on weekends, Saturdays and Sundays as the coronavirus cases spread rapidly in the neighbouring state of Kerala. Following this, jewellery and textile shops were closed today and tomorrow. Pollachi textile shop owners filed a petition in this regard at the Pollachi Collectorate today.

Textile shop owners say that after several months, the Tamil Nadu government has given permission to open schools, colleges in TamilNadu, but students will only come on weekends on Saturdays and Sundays to pick up uniforms, which has affected sales as shops are currently closed. They also lamented the inability to pay the workers who depend on them to work in the shops. In addition to jewellery and clothing stores, many shops, including cell phone shops and hotels, operate under government-imposed restrictions.

They said, "If the district administration gives us permission to open the shop with additional restrictions, the workers who depend on them will have their livelihoods up and they will be able to run their business without losing customers."
