Samooga Neethi Thooimai Paniyalar Sangam petitions District Collector for change in work timings and increase in wages

The petition sought a change in the working hours of cleaning workers and a minimum wage of Rs. 605.


Coimbatore: The members of the Samooga Neethi Thooimai Paniyalar Sangam filed a petition with the Coimbatore District Collector, G S Sameeran on Friday seeking a change in the working hours of sanitary workers and a minimum wage of Rs. 605 for them.



The working hours of sanitary workers in Coimbatore Corporation were stipulated to begin at 5.45 am during the British period. The same timings are still being followed even until today. Sanitary staff are forced to leave homes at 3 am and hence are unable to take care of their children.

Hence, the members of the Samooga Neethi Thooimai Paniyalar Sangam filed a petition with the District Collector urging for the starting time of their work days to be changed to 7 am and the minimum daily wage for a sanitary worker in Coimbatore which is currently Rs.333 to be increased to Rs. 605.
