Coimbatore: World Nutrition Month is being observed from September 1 to 30 in Valparai, Coimbatore district. The Anganwadi staff in Valparai are raising awareness among the general public in every nook and corner of Valparai.



Geetha, an Anganwadi worker from Nadumalai and Sivagami, an Anganwadi worker from Anna Nagar raised awareness in the Valparai Town area. "The first 1000 days are called the golden days, from the time a woman is born to the time she gives birth to a child up to the age of two. Babies will grow well only if they are given complete nutrition during these 1000 days, and the baby will grow well and healthy if the mother eats nutritious foods," explained the Anganwadi workers.



They warned that children will be more vulnerable to malnutrition and hence advised consumption of nutritious foods, foods rich in vitamins, and lots of fruits apart from being breastfed until the child is about 1.5 years old. The workers encouraged people in Valparai to approach the Anganwadi Centers which are functional for children from ages 1-5 so that they could be provided with free eggs along with nutritious food provided by the Government to ensure the well-being of children.
