For the first time in India, Air India launched a dedicated 'Bonded Trucking Service' office at the Air Cargo premises in Coimbatore in the first week of August.
Coimbatore: Coimbatore International Airport caters to people from seven districts in and around Coimbatore. At the Air Cargo office located at the airport premises, different types of cargo are booked and transported to different parts of the country and abroad. There are domestic flights from Coimbatore to various destinations. But in the international aviation sector, there are only flights to countries including Sri Lanka, Singapore and Sharjah. Similarly, the 'Bonded Trucking Service' scheme is being implemented at airports that do not have much air service to foreign countries.
The goods will be transported by truck from Coimbatore to airports including Bangalore and Kochi and from there to various countries by air. Currently, for the first time in India, Air India had launched in the first week of August, a dedicated 'Bonded Trucking Service' office at the Air Cargo premises in Coimbatore. 2,138 kg of cargo was booked and shipped to Abu Dhabi for the first time on Thursday, September 2. The cargo was transported by road to Bangalore airport and from there onto an Air India flight to Abu Dhabi. Subramanian, Assistant General Manager, Air Cargo Division, Coimbatore International Airport flagged off the event at the Air Cargo premises at the airport, on Thursday.
'This new 'Bond Trucking Service' offers the opportunity to carry various types of overweight cargo on 'Air India' from Coimbatore on flights operated to various countries. Therefore, traders, industrialists and exporters can take advantage of this facility,' said officials from the Cargo Division.
