The Tamil Nadu Government has banned the placing of a Vinayagar statue in public places ahead of the Vinayagar Chaturthi festival, in an effort to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.
Coimbatore: The Hindu Munnani is staging protests in about 200 temples in Coimbatore.
As part of the protest in the Uppilipalayam Thandu Mariamman temple in Coimbatore, the Hindu Munnani members reportedly appealed to godto enable celebration of the Vinayagar Chaturthi festival across Tamil Nadu.
"We have appealed to god to give good sense to the DMK government which has banned the Vinayagar Chathurthi festival that has been celebrated for years," opined the HIndu Munnani members.

Permission has been granted to place idols in houses for worship but the Hindu Munnani continues to demand permission to celebrate the Vinayagar Chaturthi festival.
"Government permission is not required to place idols at homes and worship, and if this continues, it will not be possible to worship at home too in the future. The Government reasons saying there is a risk of Coronavirus spreading but by allowing the opening of theatres, malls, Marina beach and TASMAC stores, the question arises whether the spread of Coronavirus will increase just by celebrating Vinayagar Chaturthi," questioned the members of the Hindu Munnani.
