Mother petitions West Zone Coimbatore IG for reinvestigation of daughter's suicide

The daughter had set herself ablaze at her home after a visit to a couple in Telugupalayam who reportedly cheated her family of their property.

Coimbatore: Santhamani (52) submitted a petition to West Zone Coimbatore IG Sudhakar personally, on Wednesday requesting for a reinvestigation of her daughter’s death who reportedly set herself on fire.

The petitioner stated that a couple in Telugupalayam had tricked them into selling their property but were not given any money. When the daughter approached the couple for money, they denied any acquaintance with her which reportedly led the depressed girl to commit suicide.

Santhamani (52) had been living in Coimbatore for the past 40 years with her children. Post her husband’s death, a relative had defrauded them of their family property claiming that the will grantedcommon rights. A case was registered in 2014 regarding this incident.

However, a man named Ravi had introduced her to a couple from Telugupalayam (Ramachandran and Vichitra) who were ready to purchase the assets despite the legal problems in it. The couple had reportedly political influence (as per the statements).

The trio turned out to be fraudsters who obtained signatures from Santhamani, and her two heirs, Saravanan and Kalaivani. The buyers promised to pay them once all the legal problems were over but did not do so. After being patient for a long time, Kalaivani, who approached Ramchandran and Vichitra was sent away by the couple with threats, who also claimed they did not know her. Kalaivani set herself ablaze on returning from Ramachandran’s house and did not survive medical treatment even after being rushed to hospital.

The victims were reportedly threatened to showcase the incident as only suicide. However, the girl’s mother Santhamani has now requested the IG to take over the case, demanding justice.
