Restoration of lakes in Kalapatti begins; Eco-restoration project continues

District Collector and CCMC Commissioner flag off the restoration work for the various lakes in Kalapatti.


Coimbatore:The Coimbatore District Collector, G S Sameeran, and CCMC Commissioner and Special Officer, Raja Gopal Sunkara flagged off the project for rehabilitation of lakes in the Kalapatti area of Coimbatore Corporation, East loop, Yesterday.

The restoration of lakes which is a part of the Smart City project in Coimbatore is being done by categorizing the city into different loops like the East Loop, or South Loop etc.

Kalapatti lakes falling under the east loop were flagged off for restoration work on Wednesday. The process is done to restore the biodiversity and conservation of resources. The Environment Trust of India funded the task and the Kariya Perumal Pond spread over 18 acres and 16 cents in the Kalapatti area, the Thottipalayam Pond spread over 4 acres and 42 cents, Kalam Park spread over 2 acres and 87.4 cents and Chetty Pond spread over an area of 13 acres and 83 cents are being renovated.

Rangarajan, Assistant Commissioner, Eastern Region and Ravichandran, Executive Engineer, Assistant Town Planning Officer were present during the event.
