As electrification work has been completed in Pollachi - Podanur railway line, the test run was conducted.
Coimbatore: The Pollachi-Podanur, Palakkad-Dindigul broad gauge railway electrification work which had been allocated Rs. 600 crores began last year.
Following the completion of the construction of electric poles on the 40 km long railway line between Pollachi and Podanur, the first phase of the test run was conducted on Wednesday, by an electric train.
The train left Podanur at 12.20 pm, reached a speed of 75 kmph and reached Pollachi railway station at 1.03 pm. The train was driven by Jayakanthan. Railway engineers including Shaju, Assistant Chief Engineer, Railways and Thiagarajan, Assistant Engineer inspected the poles erected on the reserve track.
Then again at 1.13 pm the train left Pollachi railway station for Podanur. During the test run, no problems occurred. Hence, railway officials stated that the next phase of the test run would be conducted soon with assembled train carriages.
