Search for missing medical student who drowned in the Sedal Dam in Valparai continues.
Coimbatore: A fourth-year student, Sriram (24) of the Coimbatore Government Medical College who was bathing along with his friends in the river near Sedal Dam which is adjacent to the Parambikulam Dam in Valparai had reportedly been swept away by the water current.
Sriram is the son of Ganesan who hails from West Mambalam, Chennai who had visited Valparai with his four friends over the weekend.
Arriving in Valparai, he and his friends toured the Sholayar Dam area which had reached full capacity and went to bathe in the river leading to the Parambikulam dam adjacent to the Sedal Dam area that had excess water flow. 1,800 cubic feet of water flows through this river from the Sholayar Dam. Sriram and his friends were bathing in this river and then Sriram is reported to have been unexpectedly caught in the water current and was swept away.
Following this, his friends immediately informed the Valparai police. Inspector Karpagam and a team of police officials, along with the forest and fire department teams are still continuing their search for the missing medical student, Sriram, for the third consecutive day.
Even as the search in the waters proved futile, the search team scoured areas along the river bank and adjacent areas on Wednesday.
