Lone wild elephant causes ruckus in Valparai by smashing windows and doors of a house in the Waterfalls Tea Estate
Coimbatore: Waterfalls Tea estate is located on Pollachi-Valparai Road and employs over 500 workers. Housing quarters have been provided on behalf of the Valparai administration for those working in tea estates. For the past few months, a lone wild elephant in the area has been roaming the estate.
A few months ago, a wild elephant trampled a person to death near a house. The Forest Department has been taking various measures to keep the lone wild elephant at bay. However, this lone wild elephant continues to roamclose to the tea estate workers' quarters. The wild elephant reportedly entered the area where Mohan lives' at around 9 pm last night and smashed the back door of his house and also destroyed a nearby tree. Workers gathered together and struggled for several hours to chase the wild elephant away.
The constant roaming of this lone wild elephant in the area has caused fear and panic among the tea estate workers. They have demanded that authorities in Valparai ensure the lone wild elephant be captured and restored back into the forest reserve before any casualties occur among the public.
