Coimbatore: In the past four days, Coimbatore has recorded a relatively high number of fresh Covid cases. The Coimbatore District Collector, G S Sameeran has warned that if the situation continues, there might be strict restrictions reinforced once again in the city.

The Government of Tamil Nadu had earlier announced that schools and colleges will reopen on September 1. Steps have been taken to ensure students from Kerala have had at least one dose of vaccination against Covid. Special measures will be taken to ensure that the second dose of vaccination will be administered to those students from Kerala have had their first dose of vaccination.

Over 22.20 lakh vaccines have been administered thus far, of which 71 percent have been administered by the Government's initiative, 1.69 lakh by private hospitals, 2.16 lakh through industry initiatives and 18,000 vaccines with CSR financial participation by various institutions in Coimbatore. Additional vaccination camps are to be conducted in the days ahead where it is expected that a large number of people will be administered their second dose of the vaccination to fight Covid-19.
