Coimbatore: A 19-year-old woman from Pollachi worked in a petrol station. She got acquainted with a 17-year-old boy who came there to buy petrol and later fell in love. It is alleged that the boy was forced into marriage a few days ago. The boy's parents lodged a complaint at the Pollachi All Women's Police Station. The police investigation into the case revealed that the 17-year-old boy was allegedly forced to marry the young woman.
The 19-year-old girl was subsequently booked under the POCSO Act and produced before the Coimbatore Magistrate's Court, where police remanded her to the Coimbatore Central Jail. So far, those who have raped girls, and those who have been forced girls into marriage, have been prosecuted under the POCSO Act and arrested and imprisoned. It is to be noted that this is the first time a woman who forced a 17-year-old boy into marriage has been arrested in Pollachi.
