Red alert issued for Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tirupur and Tenkasi by Regional Meteorological Centre

Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Tirunelveli, Dindigul will also receive heavy rains as per reports


Coimbatore: The Regional Meteorological Center, Chennai has issued red alert for Tirupur, Thenkasi, Coimbatore and Nilgiris districts which are expected to receive very heavy rains on Saturday.

Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Tirunelveli, Dindigul, Nilgiris, Theni, Tiruvannamalai, Salem and Puducherry received heavy rain on Friday while some places in Chennai received light rain.

It has been forecast that Nilgiris, Theni, Dindigul, Tirupur and Coimbatore districts will receive very heavy rains on Saturday due to the increase in humidity of west winds. Heavy rainfall will lash Villupuram, Tirunelveli, Mayiladuthurai and some places in Puducherry. Coimbatore, Nilgiris and a few other places will receive heavy rainfall on August 29 and 30.

Theni, Virudhunagar, Thoothukudi, Salem, Erode and Dharmapuri districts are expected to receive heavy rainfall on August 29, while Dindigul, Theni, Tenkasi, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Erode, Salem and Namakkal districts will receive heavy rainfall on August 30.

The Chennai Meteorological Centre has issued a 'red alert' for districts that have been warned of heavy rainfall.
