A man mysteriously drowned while he was reportedly fishing in Navamalai Hill tribal settlement near Pollachi. Police are investigating if he was murdered.
Coimbatore: Kali who hails from the Navamalai Hill tribal settlement near Pollachi had gone along with his friends Muthu and Pandi from the same area to fish in the Navamalai river on Wednesday. All three men were said to be inebriated. Kali is said to have stepped into the river to fish but had not returned for a long time.
His two friends are said to have searched for him and then informed the police and residents in his neighborhood. Police and firefighters rushed to the Navamalai river and recovered Kali's body after hours of struggle. Police are investigating the case based on suspicion that he could have been beaten to death since he had injuries on his body. Kali's corpse has been sent to the Coimbatore Government Hospital for autopsy.
