Request raised to the corporation and local project groups to extend permissions
Coimbatore: Construction work has been affected for the past two years as curfew imposed due to pandemic. People have requested the local planning authority and corporation administration to extend the building permissions and license by two years.
Social activist Kanakasundaram said, “Generally, a license is issued on behalf of the Corporation for the construction of houses up to 10,000 sq ft and commercial complex up to 2,000 sq ft.
Buildings constructed with the above-mentioned square feet has to be licensed by the Local Planning Authority and the Corporation. Construction work will commence posting that.”
The license validity is for 5 years and shall be extended for a year later. The Local planning authority will provide permission for 3 years, which shall be extended again for another 3 years. Construction works are on hold due to curfew and work never started in few places.
He says “It is unlikely for any extension of license and permission if people affected approach the Corporation and local planning authority about the situation, and most already are in a tough situation financially.”
Adding to that, he stated that the process of applying for a new license or permission would take ages as the procedures are changed now. He thus requested an extension just like the transport department. He demanded an extension for two years from the current date of the license.
The managing director of a construction company inSulaimedu, Chennai filed a case in the Madras High Court on the license extension issue. The case was heard and considering the petitioner's plea an extension has been provided for a period of 9 months. Therefore, the Corporation and the Local Planning Authority should now extend the building license and permit in response to the legitimate demand of the affected people for the construction work not completed.
