Officials obtain written statement from parents that she would not be forced into marriage till she turns 18
Coimbatore: The Social Welfare Office in the Southern Union of Pollachi received information about a marriage between a 16-year old girl and a 26-year old boy.
The young girl was identified as the daughter of farmer Thandapani (57) of Dindigul.
Officials along with the Komangalam Police Department and the VAO rushed to the spot and halted the wedding. They informed both the groom and bride's side that it was illegal to get a girl married before she turned 18 years of age and that it is a severely punishable offence. The officials also obtained a written statement from the girl’s parents that they will not get their daughter married before she turns 18 years of age.
