Vanathi Srinivasan requests TN government to provide increased compensation amount in full
Coimbatore: In a meeting held on Friday which comprised farmers and BJP MLA of Coimbatore South, Vanathi Srinivasan, farmers put forth the consequences that will arise when they provide their lands for the Airport expansion project.

The Airport Expansion is a project that has been in discussion for over 15 years. The Airport Authority of India has given the blueprint for the expansion and the project is still on hold due to insufficient land space. The expansion of the airport can be carried out only if the Government of Tamil Nadu acquires land which is the norm in any State in our country. But since there was nothing in the Budget 2021-22 presented on August 13, legislators have approached the ruling DMK Government in this regard.

Most of the landlords have been compensated with funds from the Government in return for the land acquired from them for the expansion project but the catch was that the amount given by the Government in exchange for the land acquired was insufficient.

A request has been presented in this regard to the Tamil Nadu Government to support acquisition of lands that are not used for agriculture, and lands where only a minimum number of houses are present. This would reportedly also reduce the risk of loss to the public.
Former AIADMK Minister S P Velumani increased the compensation amount during his tenure, to land providers for the Airport expansion plan. BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan stated that their party had completely supported farmers in this issue. "The promises of officials and party members in providing lands or money as compensation for the landowners shall not be forgotten as they do not provide clarity to the farmers. The compensation amount should be provided to the farmers without compromising the increased value. Also, the Government should act fast in providing proper support and compensation for the small scale industries that fall into the expansion area," she stated.
