Bumpy, uneven roads threaten public life in Cheranmanagar, Coimbatore

Iron plates fall off a truck on roadside shops due to bumps and pits in the road

Coimbatore: The state of roads between Hope college-Cheranmanagar is in disrepair and adding to it, the works for laying water pipelines are going on now.

Thousands of riders use the road as they serve as an easy connection to people who wants to go to Mettupalayam or touch Sathyamangalam roads from Avinashi and Trichy road. Cheran managar has grown rapidly in terms of area and civilization in the last ten years.

However, the roads are a threat to the riders as the traffic in there is immense. Moreover, trucks that carry loads to steel industries in the Thaneerpandhal area use the way. The trucks carry steel plates and other heavy-weight objects to various industries through the Cheranmanagar road. Most of the trucks are 20-tired.

Most trucks are only operated by the drivers and there are no helpers or any assistants who can direct the drivers leading to fatal accidents.

As the water pipeline laying work is in progress, the trucks that carry steel loads still travel through the same road, leaving a threat to the two-wheeler riders and four-wheeler riders who travel through the same road.

A truck that carried iron plates via the Paalkarar thottam main road this afternoon, lost control as the roads were uneven and the iron plates fell off the truck on a roadside shop. However, there were no accidents nor any deaths.

This is still a huge threat to the riders who use the Cheranmanagar road. Public raised a request to the officials to take necessary action post the incident and they also stated that those who operate such vehicles should take proper precautionary measures so that none of the others are put in danger.

A witness stated that, “ I sensed the danger immediately when I saw a lorry carrying the iron plates. Hence, I warned the others who were behind the truck. Somehow it did fall off and collapsed the roadside shop”

Jayaram, AIADMK MLA from the Singanallur assembly constituency, said, "I myself have taken steps to personally inspect and expedite the ongoing water pipeline work on Vilankurichi road to Cheranmanagar.

I have also submitted a memorandum to the Collector urging him to take steps to construct a new road once these works are completed. Such mishaps can be avoided only if heavy vehicles plying on this road follow the appropriate safety procedure. "

Lives are precious and it is the responsibility of each and every person to have civic sense when they are on the road. It is not just the duty of the officials.
