Price hikes did not disturb the purchase
Coimbatore: Onam, the biggest festival of Kerala is to be celebrated tomorrow, and the preparations are in full swing.
Onam is festival of farmers. It is a day of paying tribute to those who feed people through endless toil.
The festival is majorly celebrated by decorating the houses with flowers and Coimbatore being the second home for most Keralites, the flower market overflowed with people to buy flowers.
The prices are high for the past few days, yet people did not stop from buying flowers for the festival.
The Rangekaudar and Periyakada Road in Coimbatore hotted with trucks and vehicles yesterday as people were out buying veggies, grocery and flowers.
The cops and corporation officials were directing the public to follow proper Covid protocols in the areas and shops where there were immense crowds.
On the occasion of Onam, chendu malli kg rs.160, Sevanthi kg Rs.100 and Mullai kg Rs. 1000, Vadamalli Rs.320 per kg, White Chrysanthemum Rs.200, Red Rose Kg Rs. 320, Coriander Kg Rs.2000 Samangi Kg Rs.200, Chicken Konda Kg Rs.160, Honey Chrysanthemum Kg Rs.160, Red Rose 240, Colour Rose Kg 280, Yellow Rose 320 were the prices of flowers, which is a 3x hike.
As per the restrictions announced by the district corporation, temples shall not allow devotees but regular poojas and poojas for such special occasions will go on as usual.
“The price has gone up due to the occasion of Onam, but people have not stopped buying the flowers”, stated Ranganathan (President, Coimbatore Malar Vyabari Sangam), Archana, Akshana.
