'Metro rail project will be implemented in more than 10 places, including Coimbatore and Madurai:' Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M K Stalin assures in Assembly.
Coimbatore: The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M K Stalin assured the Assembly that the Metro Rail project will be implemented in more than 10 places, including Coimbatore and Madurai. MDMK has demanded that the draft plan be taken to the Central Government for approval and implemented immediately.
'We will consult with the Central Government for the Coimbatore Metro Rail project. The Coimbatore Metro Rail project was already announced by the Central Government in 2011. Metro Rail service has been launched in all the cities except Coimbatore out of the 18 cities on the list of Metro Rail cities announced by the Union Government at that time. Even in Kochi, which is next to Coimbatore, the project was completed and put into public use many years ago. We have been fighting since the year the Central Government announced the Coimbatore Metro Rail project. But the previous State Government has been very lenient. The scheme was announced under Rule 110 during the last regime after several struggles. The project report was then prepared. But the project was not launched as the Central Government did not take up the project and intensify work for it. Since the project has already been announced by the Central Government, the Central Government has cooperated with the Coimbatore Metro project. Therefore, we kindly request the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu to submit their project report to the Central Government and emphasize the Coimbatore Metro Rail project,' requested MDMK members.
