Coimbatore: Being a fast-growing city, plans for Coimbatore's future development was announced way back in 2010 during the reign of DMK.
This included the Coimbatore International Airport which not only serves the locals but also greatly benefits people of seven districts around Coimbatore.
The expansion plan for the airport covers an area of 627 acres, with the runway being 12,000 feet. The airport is also expected to be spruced up with various other infrastructural support.
Though the Airport authorities are all set to provide the necessary support in implementing the expansion plan, the area for expansion is yet to be provided by the Tamil Nadu Government. The project was stalled for 10 long years, which is now being revived by the new DMK ruling party. The importance of the expansion project was thoroughly explained by the Airport authority to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M K Stalin and other ministers as well.
In the wake of continual requests from industrialists to ministers and officials who visited the city, the land acquisition work has been accelerated.

“A special meeting was held on Tuesday to discuss the project and the Coimbatore District Collector, G S Sameeran and I inspected the area for two hours this morning. The district authorities are speeding up to commence the project as soon as possible,” stated Senthil Valavan, Airport Director.

He further added that the project was an important aspect for the further development of the city and hence it will be hastened and supported completely.
