Popular Front of India petitions Coimbatore City Police Commissioner to stop illegal probing of the Islamic community in Coimbatore.


Coimbatore: The Popular Front of India (PFI) filed a petition with Deepak M Damor at the Coimbatore City Police Commissioner's office alleging that more than 100 members of the Islamic community have been threatened by the police under the pretext of investigation over the past month.

It is alleged that all the personal details of the people including details of Aadhaar ID, photograph and mobile phone were obtained while being interrogated.



In the petition, members of the Popular Front of India (PFI) have demanded that appropriate action be taken against all police officials involved in such illegal investigations. Abdul Hakeem, the Coimbatore District Chairman of the PFI told reporters that police anarchy was rampant in Coimbatore in the name of investigation. He also pointed out that possession of more than one SIM card is considered a crime in the eyes of the police. He also urged the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin to pay special attention to such illegal investigations and take appropriate action.
