Accounts of contractors closely related to ex-Minister S P Velumani under audit

Even as residences of former ADMK Minister S P Velumani and his allies were raided on August 9 and 10, cases were filed against the ex-Minister and 17 others, under three different sections. Following the raids and cases registered, the accounts of district contractors are being audited.


Valparai: Even as residences of former ADMK Minister S P Velumani and his allies were raided on August 9 and 10, cases were filed against the ex-Minister and 17 others, under three different sections. Following the raids and cases registered, the accounts of district contractors are being audited.

Based on a complaint regarding the abuse of contracts by contractors close to S P Velumani, the anti-corruption squad audited their accounts on Monday. “The accounts of contractors close to S P Velumani are being audited,” reported anti-corruption officials. It is said that the contracts were illegally given to those in S P Velumani's close circles, out of which he reportedly had an 8 to 12 percent share.

All accounts of S P Velumani's close aides are being audited contract works awarded to them for the past 10 years are being examined for irregularities. It is also reported that details were collected as to whether the works mentioned in the contract had been completed within the contract amount.

S P Velumani, who was one of the powerful ministers in the ADMK regime, along with 16 other individuals and business firms were booked for irregularities committed to issuing contracts between 2014 and 2018. The FIR was registered against P Anbarasan, Velumani’s brother, KCP Engineers Private Ltd. Managing Director K Chandraprakash and its Director-cum-shareholder K Chandrasekar and several others. The FIR was registered based on a complaint filed by DMK Rajya Sabha member R S Bharathi and Arappor Iyakkam, a Chennai-based anti-corruption watchdog. DVAC sleuths raided 60 properties at multiple places including Chennai and Coimbatore for two days.
