Coimbatore: CPM All India General Secretary, Sitaram Yechury stated that the BJP's yatras are sure to cause a third Covid-19 wave in the country.
"The BJP-led Central Government has failed to protect Indians in Afghanistan, but is encouraging political activities that are destroying democracy," slammed Sitaram Yechury. The CPM All India General Secretary arrived in Coimbatore for a two-day CPM district executive committee meeting in Coimbatore.
Sitaraman Yechury addressed the media at the CPM district office in Gandhipuram on Tuesday saying, 'The Government should intensify vaccination efforts in the wake of the impending third wave of Coronavirus in India. The Central Government is not providing clear and transparent information on the availability of vaccines. The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has sought permission to produce vaccines in Chengalpattu and Coonoor,' he added.
Sitaram Yechury condemned the Central Government's hike in excise duty on petroleum products. He also said that taxes on petroleum products alone accounted for Rs. 3.71 lakh crore in 2020-21.'Only by reducing the tax levied on petroleum products can the prices of essential commodities used by people be reduced. Many prominent figures in India, such as the judiciary and journalists have reportedly been spied on by the Pegasus app. I will stage a protest to condemn this,' added Sitaram Yechury.
'The Government had failed to protect Indians living in Kabul, Afghanistan, with no clear information on how many Indians have been brought here. The BJP has declared August 14 as the day of separatist terrorism. After 1940, Muhammad Ali Jinnah put forward the demand for Pakistan,' he warned.
The CPM leader questioned the wisdom of the BJP in currently conducting yatras to 126 places in India. 'This would lead to the spread of the Covid-19 third wave,' he warned. MP P R Natarajan and CPM political leadership member G Ramakrishnan were also present on the occasion.
