'Former Minister S P Velumani should be arrested immediately:' demands Makkal Needhi Maiam's State Secretary

Coimbatore: Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) members have demanded the arrest of former Minister S P Velumani who has been accused of rigging tenders and making Government contracts available to those who owe him, thus abusing his office.

'In order to prove the corruption he had indulged in, Arappor Iyakkam exposed with strong evidence that hundreds of crores of rupees had been embezzled. Based on this evidence, the Anti-Corruption Bureau conducted inspections at S P Velumani's premises and also those closely associated to him. But S P Velumani has been freely roaming all over Tamil Nadu. Based on the first information report recorded by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption and the evidence released, they revealed that what S P Velumani has done was not ordinary corruption. Tenders have been solicited from the names of the sister companies from a computer with the same IP numbers. The companies of those close to him who took the tender have grown exponentially in a short period of time. Contracts worth crores of rupees have been illegally awarded. The tender terms have been liberally relaxed for those who owe and the list goes on and on,' opined Senthil Arumugam, State Secretary of MNM.

'S P Velumani will have the opportunity to destroy corrupt documents, dissolve witnesses and obstruct the trial of the case if DVAC delays his immediate arrest. News of corrupt politicians who rob people of their tax money neing sent to jail immediately will be a warning to those who continue to unhesitatingly engage in corruption. On behalf of Makkal Needhi Maiam, we urge the Anti-Corruption Bureau to take swift and serious action in all investigations pertaining to corruption and bribery, not just S P Velumani's affairs. Congratulations to Arappor Iyakkam members who are fighting hard against corruption that is affecting our society like cancer,' slammed Senthil Arumugam.
