Swift police action resulted in the recovery of 55 sovereign jewellery and 2 motorcycles worth Rs. 15 lakhs in Coimbatore suburbs
Coimbatore: In the suburbs of Coimbatore, many houses have been broken into recently, on a daily basis. In the waake of a spate of burglaries, Coimbatore District S P S Selvanagarathinam ordered for a special team led by Karumathampatti Deputy Superintendent of Police Ananda Arokkiyaraj along with Inspector Sivakumar to investigate the burglaries.
Assisted by chief constables. Kovilpalayam police station Inspector Sivakumar raided an area near the Indian Oil petrol bunk, Kurumbapalayam at around 8 am on Monday. They stopped two youth speeding on a Bajaj Pulsar without a name plate. When questioned, both youth gave contradictory answers and hence the police arrested them. Further investigation revealed that they were involved in more than 10 thefts in various parts of the state, including Kovilpalayam. The two youth were identified as Vijayakumar ( 27) from Lakshmi Garden, Keeranatham Panchayat and Kannan (32) from Thanjavur.
55 sovereigns of gold jewellery worth Rs. 15 lakh were also recovered from them during the ongoing investigation.
It was also learned that there were cases of theft and burglary registered against them at various police stations including Coimbatore's Kovilpalayam. Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police, S Selvanagarathinam lauded the police personnel who acted swiftly to book the culprits.
