Passengers have been allowed to fly from Coimbatore to Sharjah after a gap of 3 months; 'Air Arabia' flights from Coimbatore packed to capacity
Coimbatore: The Indian Government had banned flights from India to foreign countries following the spread of Covid-19 across the country.
However, only aircrafts operating under the 'Vande Bharat' scheme are exempted. Meanwhile, foreign airlines are operating flights to various cities in India.
Air Arabia is currently operatingflights between Sharjah and Coimbatore three days a week, on a daily basis, from Coimbatore Airport to Sri Lanka, Singapore and Sharjah. Passengers are now returning to Sharjah from Coimbatore since the Government has allowed entry for passengers from India.
Airport sources say that earlier the Sharjah-Coimbatore flight which had been operating for the past three months was allowed to pick up passengers only from Sharjah due to the spread of Covid-19 infections. On the way back from Coimbatore, only cargo was allowed to be transported.
But now, passengers have started boarding flights from Coimbatore to Sharjah and the airline service is currently available three days a week. The plane, which can carry a total of 162 passengers, is reportedly always packed to full capacity. It is to be noted that at least 3 tons and more of cargo was loaded each time on the flight.
