The central government is implementing a single country single ration card scheme across the country. Items will only be available if one of the family members registered on the smart card under this scheme goes directly to the ration shop. There are a total of 1,419 ration shops in Coimbatore district. Biometric equipment has been provided to these ration shops. Fingerprint registration with biometric equipment has been completed in ration shops for this project. Since then fingerprint registration has been obtained every time a product is currently purchased at ration shops.
Internet speed is low on these tools. Also technical malfunction often occurs. Due to this, people are suffering due to delays in registering public fingerprints. There is a situation where people go to ration shops and do not buy goods. Thus the public is also engaged in a debate with the ration shop staff. Thus employees are also affected. An official from the district supply department said, "Under the new scheme, family members will be able to purchase items only if someone goes to the ration shop in person. Authorities have been notified of the technical glitch. This problem will be fixed soon.
