Excess charges received by private hospital from coronavirus patient reimbursed: Coimbatore District Collector Sameeran takes action


Coimbatore: The fee for a private hospital was fixed by the Government of Tamil Nadu and announced during the Coronavirus period. District Collector Sameeran had said that the public could provide information in case of excessive bills by private hospitals.

Since then there were several complaints and a patient was reimbursed under Collector Sameeran's order from Sri Lakshmi hospital which had collected an additional fee of Rs 4 lakh 48 thousand today. An additional charge of Rs 4.48 lakh collected for a coronavirus infection in Coimbatore has been refunded to a patient. The government has set fees for private hospitals to treat coronavirus infections in Tamil Nadu.

It is also advised only that much should be charged. Control centers have been set up so that the public can complain about private hospitals charging extra. Toll-free phone numbers have also been announced. In addition, the health department is investigating the extra charges levied by hospitals. Private hospitals are being instructed to reimburse the patient for the extra charge if it is revealed that an additional charge has been received. Accordingly, additional charges have been refunded to 19 persons in Coimbatore so far.

Jabarullah from GN Mills, Ukkadam area of Coimbatore was recently treated for coronavirus infection at a private hospital on the bypass road. He has been charged more than the amount fixed by the government. He then lodged a complaint with the District Collector and the additional charge of Rs. 4,47,990 has been returned to the patient. The family then thanked the District Collector.
