Refugee Relief & Rehabilitation officials inspected the Kottur and Aliyar Sri Lankan refugee camps near Pollachi yesterday.
Coimbatore: Chief Minister MK Stalin has issued an order to inspect the basic facilities of Sri Lankan refugees in Tamil Nadu. This was followed by an inspection of the Sri Lankan refugee camps at Kottur and Aliyar near Pollachi in Coimbatore district yesterdayon behalf of the Refugee Relief & Rehabilitation. Led by Ramathilakam, Assistant to the Director, Refugee Relief & Rehabilitation.
The study was attended by various departmental officials including Social Security Scheme individual Tahsildhars, revenue department officials and police officers. During the study, the basic needs of Sri Lankan refugees were heard.
They made demands to the Sri Lankan refugee authorities, including granting Indian citizenship to Sri Lankan refugees who have been living in camps for many years, and meeting the basic needs of the refugee camp, including drinking water and toilets. Officials said they have informed the government of the demands and action will be taken soon.
