DVAC freezes former AIADMK Minister S P Velumani's bank accounts after raids on his premises in Coimbatore and Chennai

All bank accounts of former AIADMK Minister, S P Velumani has been frozen by DVAC after a series of raids on 60 premises in Chennai and Coimbatore.


Coimbatore: Officials from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) were involved in a series of raids involving former AIADMK member S P Velumani to investigate a FIR lodged against him.

The FIR stated that the former Minister had abused his official position and allotted projects worth Rs. 346.81 crores to companies owned by his relatives in Coimbatore Corporation and works estimated at Rs. 464.02 crores in Greater Chennai Corporation during 2014-18.

On August 10, the DVAC raided 60 premises owned by S P Velumani and seized incriminating documents and cash. Following this, DVAC on Thursday froze the bank accounts of the AIADMK leader. During the 12-hour search in the premises owned by Velumani and his friends and relatives in Chennai and Coimabtore, DVAC officials seized over Rs.13 lakh in cash and documents such as land registration and fixed deposits to the tune of Rs.2 crores, as well as computers and hard disks.

The former Minister's Chepauk quarters was also raided and S P Velumani was interrogated by the Anti-Corruption Bureau for 12 hours. After freezing his accounts, DVAC officials are now investigating the confiscated property documents of the former Minister.
