Coimbatore: According to industry experts, Tamil Nadu will be a pioneer nationally and internationally if a separate minister is appointed for the renewable energy sector, including solar and wind power.
Renewable energy, including solar and wind power, plays a vital role in meeting the growing demand for electricity. With this in mind, the Central and State Governments are implementing various special schemes for the sector. However, in a state like Tamil Nadu, which has the potential to generate electricity through a very large renewable energy sector, it is not fully utilized to date.
For example, in the wind power sector alone, 200 crore units, or 1,000 crore rupees worth of electricity, are wasted (GRID CURTAILMENT) per year, according to wind power generators. To prevent this, industry experts have come up with some ideas for the Government of Tamil Nadu to excel nationally and internationally in the field of renewable energy generation in the coming years. The Treasurer of the Tamil Nadu Solar Power Generators Association (TANSPA), Shasta M. Raja said, "The renewable energy industry, which has a variety of features, including environmental friendliness, is considered a" gift to nature ".
Tamil Nadu has the infrastructure to generate 3,000 MW of electricity under the Solar Power Project and 9,500 MW under the Wind Power Project. Apart from solar and wind power generation, Tamil Nadu has the potential to generate electricity in a variety of ways under the renewable energy sector, including biodiesel and ethanol production, generating electricity from waste.
The first budget (revised financial statement for the year 2021-2022) headed by MK Stalin, the leader of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, is due to be tabled in the Assembly on August 13. Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Palanivel Thiagarajan is set to present the budget for the first time.
Some of the ideas they offer to the Government of Tamil Nadu regarding the steps to be taken in the field of renewable energy generation are:
1. Considering the importance of the renewable energy sector, a separate Minister should be appointed for this sector immediately.
2. Tamil Nadu excels nationally in wind and solar power generation. Sunlight is available throughout the year in various districts of Tamil Nadu. Therefore, new solar power generation projects should be implemented in those districts.
3. Most of the lands in 15 districts in Tamil Nadu are unused. Among them, farmers should be encouraged to cultivate castor. The government should help them process and produce biodiesel and sell them.
4. Effective implementation of the project to generate electricity from garbage in all districts of Tamil Nadu.
5. Public sector oil companies are all looking for ethanol (ETHANOL) manufacturers to blend with petrol. With this in mind, ethanol production in Tamil Nadu should be encouraged. Ethanol can be made from a variety of ingredients, including corn and sugarcane.
The statement said, "All the above projects should be implemented under the Public Private Partnership Scheme with the Government. The renewable energy sector is a boon given by nature to human beings to meet the increasing demand for electricity. It should not be wasted for any reason. If we do so then the loss is ours. If the renewable energy sector is given more importance and special projects are implemented in Tamil Nadu, it will be possible to meet the total electricity demand of the state through renewable energy projects in the coming years. Thus, Tamil Nadu will be a pioneer in the field of renewable energy generation not only nationally but also internationally."
