Kerala Chief Minister and Coimbatore District Collector receive bomb threats; Former Air Force officer arrested in Salem


Coimbatore: Police have arrested a former Air Force officer for making a bomb threat to the Kerala Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan and the Coimbatore District Collector, Sameeran.

Both the Kerala CM and District Collector received the bomb threat on their cell phones. Following this, the Commissioner of Police, Najmal Hota ordered the Cyber Crime Police to nab the unidentified person who made the bomb threat.

It is reported that the Cyber Crime Police conducted a serious investigation which revealed that the person who made the bomb threat had debts and he had contacting the cell phone numbers of the District Collector of Coimbatore and the Chief Minister of Kerala a few days ago asking them to solve his debt issues. He reportedly demanded that someone be appointed as a mediator in this regard and threatened that there would be bomb blasts in some places, including the Kerala railway station if the demand was not met.

Further investigation by the police revealed that the bomb threat had been made from Salem. The police traced the bomb threat to a cell phone number from a star hotel in Mamangam. Following this, the police immediately arrested the person who has been identified as Premraj Nair (46) from the state of Kerala.

Police said Premraj Nair who made the bomb threat recharged his cell phone at a shop in Mullai Nagar, Salem Junction on Wednesday. His movements were then monitored through a cell phone tower and he was arrested after it was revealed that he was staying at a star hotel in the Mamangam area. Further investigations are underway.
