Coimbatore: Coimbatore Railway Station has been awarded the Platinum Award for Green Railway Stations on behalf of the Green Building Council of India (IGPC).

It is to be noted that this is the first time that the award has been given to Coimbatore in the southern stations.

The Ministry of Railways has ordered all A1 'railway stations in the country to get the green certificate in 2018. The Chennai Central, Egmore, Madurai, Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode and Coimbatore railway stations under the Southern Railway administration are of' A1 'standard. In this, the process of getting the green certificate for the Coimbatore railway station has been in full swing since 2019.

Essential works to obtain this proof - rainwater harvesting system, solar power generation, LED lights on the sidewalks, sewage circulation center, heat-reflecting paint on the roofs, awareness paintings, drinking water facility, construction of 2,000 saplings in a 500 square meter area near the "A1" walkway and other facilities were actively carried out.

With all the work completed, a few months ago a team from the Green Building Council of India inspected the improved works and services at the Coimbatore railway station. Following this, the Coimbatore Railway Station was awarded 83 marks out of 100 on behalf of the Green Building Council of India and the IGPC on Thursday announced the Platinum Award for Green Railway Stations.

According to the Salem Divisional Railway Officer, "Awards are given to railway stations in 4 categories including Sanitation, Energy, Recycling, Water Management, Solid Waste Management, Innovation, Ventilation, Environmental and Smoke Control". Silver for third place, Gold for 2nd place and Platinum for first place were awarded

In India, Secunderabad, New Delhi, Jaipur, Visakhapatnam and Asansol have already won the Platinum Award, while Coimbatore is the 6th. Among the southern railway stations, the Trichy Railway Station and the Ponmalai Railway Workshop have already won the Gold Award and the MGR Chennai Central Station has been awarded the Green Certificate.
