Whitefield Habba celebrates the many colours of Karnataka

It was a celebration of culture, crafts and cuisines at the Whitefield Rising (WR) Habba on Sunday. Hundreds thronged the Inner Circle Ground in the city's tech hub to take part in an array of events marking Karnataka Rajyotsava. There were sports contests, rangoli and poster-making competitions, skits, songs and dance performances by students. The idea was to bring together diverse residents of one of Bengaluru's oldest areas, Mahadevapura.

"Whitefield is a cosmopolitan area with different kinds of people living and working here. This habba served as a platform for them to come together and celebrate," said Devyani, a volunteer with WR. Dollu Kunita, Mallakhamba and Gaarudi Gombe reflected the true flavours of the state. Among the big crowd-pullers were stalls selling eclectic goods, a lot of which were eco-friendly. Equally popular were food stalls that gave visitors a taste of dishes unique to the state.

The rangoli-making contest too saw huge participation. One of the more elaborate rangolis was created by Vanamala and her friend Aruna. "I'm not from this area. A lot of my friends stay here. So, I decided to come for the fest," said Vanamala. While sand artist Raghavendra Hegde held the visitors in awe, fusion band Karma kept the tempo high.
