Residents of over 30 villages dependent on the Public Health Care (PHC) facility situated at Vagarayampalayam, Sulur in Coimbatore district were in for a shock after knowing that the only PHC in their locality had been closed on Monday.
Coimbatore: Residents of over 30 villages dependent on the Public Health Care (PHC) facility situated at Vagarayampalayam, Sulur in Coimbatore district were in for a shock after knowing that the only PHC in their locality had been closed on Monday.
The Public Health Care facility which attended to the locals during the pandemic had to be shut after its staff were reported to have tested Covid-19 positive.
“It is the only treatment facility that was accessible for locals of over 30 villages in Coimbatore district. We encouraged village folk to vaccinate and some had been vaccinated. But the facility has now been closed,” said the President of Athikadavu water project, Selvaraj.
Sources say that a doctor and six staff nurses who served in the PHC have fallen prey to the infection. “We are now depending on the triage Center that is far away from our place. We have to go to Coimbatore now to test ourselves for Covid and for the vaccines, which is tough since we don’t have any transportation facilities,” lamented the locals to Selvaraj.
Sources say that the ambulance service for the locals at the six-bedded PHC facility has also been stopped.
The Rotary Club members of Vagarayampalayam who had helped in donating beds for the treatment facility have urged the Government to do the needful to reopen the facility since the lives of villagers could be at risk if they did not have a PHC in their locality.
