Coimbatore: A complete lockdown has been imposed in Tamil Nadu from today till the 31st as the spread of coronavirus continues to increase. All types of shops are prohibited from operating during the lockdown. Permission has been granted for vehicles selling milk, drinking water, mobile vegetables and fruits.



Corporation administration has arranged to run 2 vehicles per ward to sell vegetables and fruits. On the basis of 10 vehicles per zone, 50 mobile vehicles selling vegetables and fruits are operated.

Food and Civil Supplies Minister R. Sakkarapani and Forest Minister Ramachandran, who have been appointed by the Government of Tamil Nadu for Coronavirus prevention work in the Coimbatore district, have flagged off the vehicles selling vegetables at the Central Regional Office of the Coimbatore Corporation. Government officials including Corporation Commissioner Kumaravel Pandian and District Collector Nagarajan were present on the occasion. The corporation administration has said that interested vegetable traders and pushcart shopkeepers can go to the allotted ward corporation offices and get permission to sell.



The corporation administration has appointed a committee of corporation officials to monitor sales and operate if additional vehicles are required, advising that the price of vegetables should be the same in all vehicles. The corporation revenue department is asked to ensure that vegetable vehicles go everywhere and that sales take place with social distancing.



Traders who want to go ward wise and sell vegetables can get permission from the respective Zonal Assistant Commissioner and sell them.
