CK Kumaravel quits from Makkal Needhi Maiam; says MNM went to a dentist for a heart problem
Coimbatore: CK Kumaravel, (CKK as he’s fondly revered in the startup circles), today submitted his letter of resignation to party president Kamal Haasan. His resignation was kind of expected as he had announced that he would reveal some truth on May 17. He eventually postponed it to today.
His resignation comes on the back of many top level functionaries and district level functionaries or MNM resigning. An already shattered MNM has been shattered one more time now with CKK moving away from the party. However, sources close to C.K. Kumaravel better known as CKK in the party and startup circle say it was something that they expected.
In a letter dated 20 May (Thursday) addressed to President of the Makkal Needhi Maiam, Mr. Kamal Haasan, C.K. Kumaravel stated that he is immediately resigning from his position as general secretary of the party.
Citing various reasons for this decision, in the letter CKK informed the party president of the MNM that he rejoined the party in 2019 hoping that the Makkal Needhi Maiam can indeed bring in a change in Tamil Nadu. The public space and the anticipation for that change was very high.
In the letter CKK speaking his heart out conveyed to the party president that during the months of November-December, the activities of the party and Mr Haasan’s hurricane tour increased the reception and confidence in Maiam among the people. In the letter CKK also expressed his happiness that the MNM was allotted the its traditional ‘Torchlight’ symbol back.
Moving the focus to Mr. Rajinikanth, CKK expressed that at a juncture when Mr. Rajinikanth announced that he was not going to enter in to politics, people’s hope and expectation on Maiam was even brighter when these happened.
However, the tone of the letter subsequently changes and a disappointed CKK becomes candid when he conveys to the party president that the party has lost its opportunities. Through the letter, CKK questions the party president that despite the fact that the party is qualified to sit in the opposition, why has the party not been able to win even one constituency in the 2021 Tamil Nadu assembly elections? In the following sentence comes the answer. CKK holds the party president’s political advisers and their misguidance responsible for the scenario.
Explaining the reasons for the situation, CKK goes on to write in the letter that it is their narrow-mindedness and actions of concentrating on one single constituency that have shattered the hopes and expectations of all people. The reasons and factors for our failure have been put before you and the media by those who have left before, writes CKK. The reasons they put forward are true. You also know that it is true.
I have nothing new to say, the letter read. “When you have a problem in the heart, you see a cardiologist. No sane person will consult a dentist for a heart-related disease or disorder. However, this was not the case with the MNM in the elections that went by.” CKK told SimpliCity over the phone after submitting his letter of resignation to the party president.
It may be noted that Prashant Kishor, the Indian political consultant and politician was initially roped in to mentor Makkal Needhi Maiam in the TN assembly elections. However, the party quickly turned them down and opted for a new consultant who did not have the experience nor the skills required, said many sources.
Several party loyalists saw the alarm bells ringing back then. “I had like several others in the party raised concerns and red flags about handing over the job of offering consultation during the elections to the chosen agency instead of appointing an able and capable agency to take care of the job. However, all our requests which were for the good of the party fell on deaf ears and the decision making authority did what as per his will and wish.” CKK said.
Being vocal about being angry, CKK in the letter mentioned “I have a lot of anger and resentment that we, who are supposed to be historians, have become history readers. Than politics that depends only on the individual image, I want to travel the path of secular democratic politics.” CKK wrote in the letter.
Formally resigning from position as general secretary of the Makkal Needhi Maiam, C.K. Kumaravel, positively ended the letter to the party president thanking the party president for all the love and affection that was showered upon him courtesy Mr. Kamal Haasan. The former also congratulated the latter and the Makkal Needhi Maiam.
A few weeks ago, when a few prominent faces also resigned from their position from the MNM, they were whispers in the political and media circle that next one who will walk out of the party is certainly C.K. Kumaravel. However, no one from the party gave an official confirmation on this.
In a phone conversation with SimpliCity, CKK who is based out of Chennai, said “the actor in Mr. Kamal Haasan has to die for the politician in him to emerge.” According to CKK, the much hyped up party is currently clearly at the crossroads. What will happen next as far as the party is concerned is still unpredictable as at the MNM camp, it is the leader who calls the shots.
As far as CKK is concerned his political journey will continue as his aim to serve the people and work for the betterment of the society are not shaken. “It is too nascent to speak about my political plans. One thing is for sure, I will not get lured by any kind of hero worship.” the CEO and Co-founder of Naturals Salons & Spa, C.K. Kumaravel ends.
