Covid tests done on those who roam unnecessarily during curfew in Coimbatore
Coimbatore: In Coimbatore, Covid tests were done on those who roamed the roads unnecessarily in violation of curfew rules. With Covid-19 cases spiking with every passing day in Coimbatore district, a complete curfew was imposed in the district. Yet, vehicle movement on the roads has not decreased.
Coimbatore Corporation officials conducted Covid tests on motorists roaming in Sanganoor area of Coimbatore on Tuesday. The tests were done on all motorists and co-passengers, whether they were on two-wheelers, trucks or cars. When many tried to flee the spot, they were forced to sit and undergo the Covid test.
A Corporation Health Division official said, "People are entering Coimbatore through the e-registration system from many districts and hence motorists in Coimbatore were tested. Drivers without a reference number were tested based on documents, including cell phone number and driver's license. Violators of Covid-prevention rules and those who do not wear masks in public, as well as shopkeepers who do not maintain social distancing in their shops are also being fined."
