With the number of Covid-19 cases increasing in Coimbatore and the rest of Tamil Nadu, the Government had called for a strict lockdown to prevent Covid-19 from spreading further.
Shops are only allowed to sell essential items and can remain open only until 10 am. But the public in Pollachi were seen standing in clusters and large crowds gathered at the Chathram Veedhi, Kadai Veedhi and surrounding shops to buy more than essential items, in complete violation of the existing lockdown.
The shopkeepers reportedly were only busy doing business without noticing the curfew violation of their customers. It is said that such blatant violation could lead to the spread of Covid-19 again in Pollachi. Social activists have demanded that authorities take immediate action.
