Coimbatore: Under the leadership of DMK Health and Family Welfare Minister Ma Subramaniam, a consultative meeting was held todayin Coimbatore to discuss the strategy against tackling Covid-19 pandemic.
Coimbatore District Government Officials and AIADMK and BJP MLAs took part in this meeting. During the meeting, Thondamuthur Constituency MLA SP Velumani gave a petition to the Health Minister which had the steps to be taken to contain the virus spread in Coimbatore.
The petition said, " The Coimbatore district administration and the corporation administration should work together to control the spread of the disease by spraying disinfectants on the streets like during the first wave of Covid-19.
Government hospitals and all private hospitals should take appropriate steps to increase the number of additional Covid-19 wards and additional oxygen bed facilities to facilitate the infected people.
The Covid-19 infection is spreading fast in rural areas and the infected people are seeking hospitalization in urban areas. To avoid this, the government should provide additional beds in primary health care facilities to treat Covid-19 infected people.
Steps should be taken by the CMCH to immediately handover the dead bodies of people who die because of Covid-19 to their families. Relatives are seen waiting in long lines to get the dead bodies.
Infectious patients will be prevented from being disturbed if the details of the vacant beds and oxygen beds in government and all private hospitals are made available to the public through the press and the media.
Wartime measures must be taken to stop Covid-19 patients waiting in Ambulances. This timely action will prevent casualties.
Measures should be taken to classify patients according to the nature of the Covid-19 infection and send them to the treatment centers immediately. They should not be made to wait and a team of medical officers should monitor them continuously.
Steps should be taken to allow testing for the infection through check posts at the neighboring state and district boundaries within the borders of Coimbatore district.
Arrangements should be made to distribute vegetables and fruits via vehicles to the public during the entire curfew once every 2 (or) 3 days to prevent the general public from moving outside." It said.
Along with the 13 demands, a monitoring committee should be set up to prevent private hospitals from charging extra for corona treatment.

AIADMK legislators Pollachi Jayaraman, Amman K Arjunan, KR Jayaraman, Vanathi Srinivasan, Amul Kandhasami, Damodaran, Kandasamy, PRG Arunkumar, AK Selvaraj and many government officials were present at the meeting
