Coimbatore: With the second wave of Covid-19 sweeping across India and leaving a trail of a high number of casualties, the total number of air passengers has significantly dropped. Flights which were operational to various cities for the past two months has been temporarily suspended by some airlines.

According to the Airports Authority of India, "A total of 1,23,908 people used the Coimbatore International Airport in March 2021. This has considerably declined to 87,252 in April 2021."

Coimbatore Airport sources said, "At present, there are only six flights a day at the Coimbatore International Airport. There is fear among people to use air services due to the spread of Covid-19. Also, curfew and restrictions in most cities have forced the public to postpone their travel temporarily. The number of passengers is expected to fall further this month, considering that it has already dropped sharply in April."
