Due to the second wave of Covid-19 sweeping across the district, over 100 people have been infected and six have died thus far in Valparai.
Coimbatore: Valparai area in Coimbatore which is renowned for comprising over 50,000 acres of tea estates with more than 50,000 tea estate workers has been hard hit by the second wave of Covid-19. It is reported that more than 100 people have been infected and six people died thus far.
Health Department officials are organising special medical camps to test for fever and Covid-19 symptoms to control and prevent the spread of Covid-19. The Revenue Department and police are raising awareness among the people regarding the need for safety of tea plantation workers.
A consultative meeting was held today at the Valparai Tahsildar Office, headed by Valparai Tahsildar, Raja in the presence of Police Inspector Maheshwari, Tata, Agro, PPCD, PKD, Water Paul and Jayashree who represented the tea estates and Kozhikadai Ganesan, Eka Ponnusamy and Tenzing from the Workers Association.
During the meeting various Covid-19 prevention measures like compulsory wearing of face masks and maintaining social distancing among both public and estate workers was urged. The request for workers to wind up work at 3 pm instead of 4 pm was accepted.
