Gandhi statue installed 30 years ago removed for road widening work in Pollachi; Officials assure it will be relocated once work is completed.
Coimbatore: The number of vehicles passing through Pollachi to Kerala and other districts has been increasing day by day.
This often leads to traffic jams and hence the four-lane road from Gandhi statue at the Central Bus Stand to Udumalai Road has been widened for the last five months. Currently, the laying of the widened road is about 70 percent complete. Work is underway to set up a roundtana and a small park at the main junction where the road will widen.
Work has started to set up a roundtana near Palakkad Road bus stand and near the Gandhi statue at the junction of Coimbatore Road and New Scheme Road.

The statue of Gandhi which had been erected at the New Scheme Road junction nearly 30 years ago was lifted by a giant crane. Within a few hours, the statue of Gandhi was placed under security at the taluk office premises, nearby. Officials said that a roundtana will be set up on the New Scheme Road area within a month and the statue of Gandhi will be placed right in the middle of it.
