First online seminar on menstrual health for the benefit of students of 184 schools held
Coimbatore: In Coimbatore district, online training on menstrual health was provided to students from 184 schools. Through integrated schooling, an awareness seminar on health, hygiene and health care for young women will be conducted annually. Owing to the pandemic, the seminar was held online on Tuesday. Of these, only one student and one female teacher from each of the 184 schools in Coimbatore, from classes 9-12 participated.
The student who participated in the seminar was briefed on the steps to be taken to act as the school's health care provider. In particular, a detailed explanation of nutritious food and hygiene during menstruation was explained. There were also detailed instructions given to the school about the structural facilities to be provided. Officials said the aim of the seminar was to reduce school drop-outs and also create awareness about the menstrual cycle.
