Slew of resignations from Makkal Needhi Maiam after Dr. Mahendran's exit
Coimbatore: There has been a slew of resignations from Makkal Needhi Maiam founded by actor-turned politician Kamal Haasan who contested and lost from Coimbatore South during the State Assembly elections that recently concluded on April 6.
Following the announcement of poll results on May 2, many organising committee members resigned from their posts, beginning with the then MNM's Vice President and Singanallur constituency candidate Dr. Mahendran who not only quit from the organising committee but also from the party.
The latest MNM member to resign is the Students Wing Deputy Secretary, K V Mouliswaraswamy who quit from the party. In his resignation letter he said, "The reason for me to join MNM was Dr. Mahendran. His ideologies and the way in which he thinks and works be it as an agriculturalist, doctor, entrepreneur etc was an inspiration not only for me but also for all the youngsters who have been following him. I have been following him for a while and when he joined MNM, I thought it was only right for me to do the same. But after working for so long and after doing so much for the betterment of the party, he has been branded as 'traitor' which is a huge disappointment for me," he aded.
"People inside the party are trying to project Dr. Mahendran in a bad way. His resignation is a huge loss for this party. We thought that the situation inside the party would get better after the election, but there has been no change yet. Being a follower of Dr. Mahendran I believe that there is no future for me in this party after his resignation. Hence, I have quit the party," statedK V Mouliswaraswamy."
It was Makkal Needhi Maiam President, Kamal Haasan who called Dr. Mahendran a "traitor," immediately after his resignation from the party.
