People protest as Remdesivir sold out in a few hours at CMCH
Coimbatore: The public in Coimbatore protested as Remdesivir was sold out in a few hours at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.
Remdesivir, available at low prices for patients suffering from Covid-19 has been on sale at the Coimbatore Government Medical College Hospital (CMCH) premises since Saturday. The 500 vials on sale were sold out in a single day, on Saturday itself. Many, unaware that Sunday was a holiday, had been waiting at CMCH since early morning to buy the medicine. On finding that it had been completely sold out, the enraged public protested.
The CMCH staff then had to reassure the protesters by giving them a token. They were advised to return the next day for the medicine after which the public dispersed. Dr. Nirmala, Dean of CMCH said, "Per day, 500 vials are provided. It is up to DNMSC to decide on the provision of additional vials. For those who asked for the medicine, tokens were issued and medicine will be provided on priority basis.''
