Expense accounts for assembly election candidates in Coimbatore urged to be filed by May 25

A total of 137 candidates from ADMK, BJP, DMK, Congress, NTK, MNM parties and other independent candidates contested in Coimbatore.


Coimbatore: All the candidates who contested in the assembly elections in Coimbatore district have to file their expenditure accounts by the 25th of this month, a district election official said. A total of 137 candidates from ADMK, BJP, DMK, Congress, NTK, MNM parties and other independent candidates contested in Coimbatore.

A candidate contesting in the election can spend upto a maximum of Rs 3,80,000 rupees. They have to submit the account details of their expenditure to the respective Returning Officer.

A separate committee was set up to monitor the candidates expenditure during elections. Those who come with the candidates will calculate their meal cost to banner and reception expenditure separately. They will prepare a cost account for each candidate separately.

In this situation, all the candidates have to file their expenditure account by the 25th of May said a district election official.

A district election official said that, " a candidate can spend a maximum of Rs 30,80,000 during the assembly elections. Candidates are required to state the expenses from the date of filing of their nomination till the end of the counting of votes.

Each candidate must open a separate bank account for the election and make all transactions through it. The counting of votes for the Assembly ended on the 2nd of May. All candidates are required to file their expense account within 25 days from this date. Accordingly, a reminder letter is being sent to each candidate to file the expenditure account by May 25th. All the expenditure accounts of the candidates will be audited on the 27th under the chairmanship of the Expenditure Observer.

Candidates will not be able to contest the next Assembly and Parliamentary elections if they do not file their expenditure accounts by the due date." he said.
