Women travel for free in 447 buses on 115 routes in Coimbatore
Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin had announced that city buses across Tamil Nadu would be free for women. According to it, women can travel for free in those buses in Coimbatore that came into effect from today.
Coimbatore Divisional State Transport Corporation operates more than 1070 city buses in the Coimbatore region to various places including Ukkadam, Townhall, Press colony, Thudiyalur, Singanallur, Siruvani, Thondamuthur, Mettupalayam, Gandhipuram, Sulur and Marudhamalai. Of these, 447 normal fare buses operate on 115 routes.
Women travelled for free on these normal fare buses.
Coimbatore Transport Corporation official said, "There were 369 regular fare buses operating in Coimbatore. A total of 447 buses are currently operating, with an additional 78 buses. In all of these, women can travel for free. Of these, a normal fee of at least Rs. 5 was charged. But now women can travel without tickets. 170 red deluxe buses are operated. There is a charge for these buses. 447 regular buses ply on 115 routes in Coimbatore. The ‘Free for Women’ sticker is to be affixed to easily know in which buses women can travel for free."
