Coimbatore Construction and Unorganised Workers Association congratulates Chief Minister M K Stalin on taking charge today; Urge him to meet their demands

The Coimbatore Construction and Unorganised Workers Association issued a press release stating some of the long-standing demands raised by the Association.

Coimbatore: Coimbatore Construction and Unorganised Workers Association congratulated DMK Chief M K Stalin and his Cabinet ministers on taking charge as the new Government in Tamil Nadu.

The Coimbatore Construction and Unorganised Workers Association issued a press release highlighting some of the long-standing demands raised by the Association:

Registration

"There are about two crore construction and unorganised workers in Tamil Nadu. In the 17 Labor Welfare Boards, more than 70 lakh people have registered but only 25 lakh people have updated their registrations. There are 1.30 crore people who have not registered and 50 lakh people who have missed the registration.

Kalaignar's decision of registering all kinds of workers has not been fulfilled for the last 10 years. Therefore, registration should be made mandatory by declaring that all workers working in the construction and unorganised industries must be registered with the Welfare Boards.

Renewal

The Government has not paid any special attention to renewal of workers registration for the last 10 years as the registrants in the welfare boards have not renewed their registrations. This has caused no benefit to the registered workers. Therefore,

1. The Board should issue an extension of time by issuing a special order stating that the renewal of the Board is valid till 31.03.2022 considering the Covid-19 delay period.

2. At present the petitions of those who have applied online are rejected within 60 days. Rejection of petitions filed online must be stopped.

Pension:

The Government has not implemented the order issued on 28.02.2011 which cancels the conditions that workers who are over 60 and have registered with the welfare board are eligible for pension which has not been initiated for the last 10 years. An order should be made to pay pensions to workers who are still alive.

Online Registration / Renewal:

Welfare Board registration / renewal work has been done online via computer from 10.06.2020 due to Covid-19. Aadhar card is made mandatory for this. People who don't have Aadhaar linked to their phone numbers or any of the other 11 documentations face trouble during renewal.

Biometric fingerprint registration should be implemented instead of Aadhaar phone number verification. The online registration should be designed so that registration and renewal can be done once the petition is filed online," stated the release.

G. Murugesan ATP, D Siranjeevi Kannan INTUC, P Aruchamy SUTUC, V Krishnasamy, G Manokaran HMS, N Selvaraj AITUC and C V Alagu TNTKPTS also signed the letter which stated their long-standing demands.
